WASHINGTON (SBG) — The expiration of a federal eviction moratorium is set to collide with a long-term crisis of housing affordability in the U.S. at the end of this month, and experts say it could leave many Americans scrambling to find a place to live within their budgets.
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moratorium on evictions due to COVID-19 that has been in place since September is scheduled to expire July 30. Amid legal challenges, complaints from landlords, and signs the economy and labor market are rebounding, federal officials have signaled they do not plan to extend it again.
