With expired eviction moratoriums and many still behind on rent due to the pandemic, some Jacksonville residents are petitioning the city to form its own housing authority to address the lack of affordable housing.

“We’ve had an ongoing crisis that’s been exacerbated by event after event,” said M. Kenyatta Euring Sr., organizer of the People’s Coalition, a diverse group of advocates helping those facing housing insecurity. “It’s nobody’s fault per se. We’ve had a natural disaster, a pandemic, and other things outside people’s control.”
