PORTLAND, Ore. — While state lawmakers extended Oregon’s eviction moratorium for an additional six months, they didn’t do the same for foreclosure protections, worrying some homeowners and housing advocates.
The CARES Act, passed by Congress last spring, provided for protections for homeowners with a federally backed loan. Advocates say about 70% of mortgages are federally held, meaning the remaining 30% of homeowners are not protected.
Earlier in the pandemic, Oregon instituted it’s own foreclosure protections to help the remaining 30%. Those expired at the end of December.
