On Thursday, Multnomah County commissioners voted to file a lawsuit seeking damages for allegedly unpaid document-recording fees from Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems.
It isn’t the first lawsuit against MERS, its owner MERSCORP Holdings and the banks that use the system. It probably won’t be the last. But any other government body in Oregon considering such a suit needs to speak up now or stay out of the fight.
