A Grosse Pointe Park CEO pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing from a religious charity that helps needy families and children, admitting he used the group’s money to pay for his own car repairs, install a new roof on his house and pay down his mortgage and American Express bills.
According to the FBI, it was the credit card bills that revealed the businessman was blowing the charity’s money on perks like trips to Florida and Mackinac Island, Lululemon athleticwear, ski trips and shopping trips to Macy’s and Sam’s Club.
John R. Lynch, 56, a father of nine, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud before U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman. His plea comes five months after the FBI detailed his alleged crimes in a federal court complaint.
