According to data from Freddie Mac, mortgage rates have dropped to their lowest level in more than a year. The average 30-year mortgage rate was 6.19% through Wednesday, down from 6.27% a week earlier. Average 15-year mortgage rates were 5.44%, from 5.52%. The decline followed a drop in the 10-year Treasury yield below 4%, a benchmark that mortgage rates closely track. The yield stayed below that level this week as Wall Street braced for a prolonged government shutdown by flocking to safe-haven assets.
