According to new research from The Eviction Lab at Princeton University, Americans most at risk of being evicted from their homes are young children. And the racial disparities are even worse, with about a quarter of Black babies and toddlers in rental households facing the threat of eviction.

Eviction Lab research associate Nick Graetz spoke with NJ Spotlight News to provide insight into the report. Among its findings, the study demonstrated that not only does the typical evicted household include one child, but it’s often the very young.

“Children are typically invisible in the legal documents that track eviction cases…so, through our partnership with the Census Bureau, we’ve linked eviction records to census data to finally understand who’s actually at risk of eviction in America,” said Graetz.
