Thank You Obama! 80 percent of U.S. adults face near-poverty, unemployment, survey finds

CBS NEWS-

Four out of 5 U.S. adults struggle with joblessness, near-poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives, a sign of deteriorating economic security and an elusive American dream.

Survey data exclusive to The Associated Press points to an increasingly globalized U.S. economy, the widening gap between rich and poor, and the loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs as reasons for the trend.

The findings come as President Barack Obama tries to renew his administration’s emphasis on the economy, saying in recent speeches that his highest priority is to “rebuild ladders of opportunity” and reverse income inequality.

  1. This process began with President Clinton and every president after. Politicians on both legs of this government are guilty of designing this failure. We need to vote them out and support the few doing the right thing.

  2. lies is all they tell says:

Instead of getting everyone back to work we all had to go on food stamps. this is the 1st time in my life i had to go on food stamps. my husband has been unemployed for over 2 years. very sad situation for all of us.

This trend has been building since I graduated from college in the mid 1970’s. Middle class wages have been falling constantly. Most US companies have taken the high paying manufacturing jobs off shore. Inflation has eaten up most of our discretionary incomes and savings. We have been on the road to becoming a third world nation. The middle class is domed to disappear. Soon there will be the super rich and the rest of us. This just did not happen overnight. It has been coming for the last 40 years. Also technology has taken many jobs as has efficiency in manufacturing and production. Welcome to the new America!!!
