As regulators complete new mortgage rules, banks are about to get a significant advantage: protection against homeowner lawsuits.
The rules are meant to help bolster the housing market. By shielding banks from potential litigation, policy makers contend that the industry will have a powerful incentive to make higher quality home loans.
But some banking and housing specialists worry that borrowers are losing a critical safeguard. Industries rarely get broad protection from consumer lawsuits, and banks would seem unlikely candidates given the range of abuses revealed during the housing bust.

The NYT is a bit misleading, if not outright unreliable. For example, criminal enterprise HSBC was called “sloppy”. and in that case, readers shouldn’t feel a sense of outrage and question the entire system that passes for justice in this country. Are we now to believe that consumer lawsuits are impacting swindle-as-usual? The Times fundamentally misses the point: Banksters have been indeminified, they have gotten away with countless crimes that would send any of us to prison for years, these “abuses” have been “settled.” What, then, is there to stop Banksters now?
Due the courts being crime scenes the banksters have an open ticket to steal houses, these laws will just make it leagal to steal. ENOUGHT IS ENOUGHT. CALL YOUR REPRESENATIVES AND TELL THEM TO HAVE THE GUTS IF THEY ARE IN A POSITION TO STOP THIS CRIME AND DO THE RIGHT THINGS. HELP THE VICTIMES NOT THE CRIMINALS. AND SEND ALL ENABLERS TO JAIL ALONG WITH THE CROOKS COMMITIING TREASON ON AMERICANS.

Hopefully one person in a position to make a difference, uninfected by the greed and power virus, will step forward and do the right thing. Then our leaders, sworn to serve and protect us, will end up right where they belong, in the jail cell right alongside the banksters they sold us out to.
