Imagine being kicked out of your home while battling cancer.
That’s the scenario that Alicia Ramirez faced. After losing her husband to cancer and then being diagnosed with the disease herself, Ramirez fell behind on her loan repayments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which supplied her loan.
“It wasn’t my fault… I was in the hospital,” she told News 4 WOAI.
Ramirez isn’t the first homeowner threatened with eviction because of an illness. In July, Wells Fargo threatened North Carolina resident Cindi Davis with foreclosure after she failed to meet her mortgage payments. Davis, who has been diagnosed with stage-4 breast cancer, told WCNC that she would have been able to pay her mortgage if she also wasn’t paying for cancer treatment.
